Autoportrait

Micheline Mathieu’s work leads us towards a sensitive world of shapes and colors. Her painting makes us aware of new feelings and brings up deeply hidden emotions. As we gaze at Micheline Mathieu’s abstract compositions in which shape and light artfully play a game of illusion, our imagination suggests elusive figurative shapes: the soft curve of a breast, a pure shoulder line or the clever architecture of unlikely landscapes. In Micheline Mathieu’s paintings, color and matter give a rythm to the work, offering us a genuine dialogue as sequences follow sequences. No one is likely to be untouched. Micheline Mathieu’s paintings may be violent, dream-like, or sometimes tender, but they always open into an inner space where we are summoned to call up our own tales.
